The Hôtel-Dieu de Hautefort, listed as a Historic Monument in 1931, stands out in this Périgord village. Founded in 1669 under the direction of the architect Jacques Maigret at the request of the Marquis Jacques-François de Hautefort and in accordance with a royal edict of Louis XIV aimed at establishing shelters for the poor. It is one of the few hospital foundations of its kind, and its architecture is unique in the region.  Since 1994, the Musée d'Histoire de la Médecine (Museum of the History of Medicine) has been offering 7 exhibition spaces to enable you to discover the history of the place (reconstruction of a patients' ward, presentation of a sacred art room, chapel at the heart of the building) and the history of medicine through the major medical specialities and a temporary exhibition.
