Museum of History of Medicine
The Hôtel-Dieu de Hautefort, listed as a Historic Monument in 1931, stands out and calls out in this Périgord village. Founded in 1669 under the responsibility of the architect Jacques Maigret following a request from the Marquis Jacques-François de Hautefort and in accordance with a royal edict from Louis XIV aimed at establishing places of reception for the poor. It is one of the rare hospital foundations of this kind and presents a unique architecture in this region. Since 1994, the Museum of the History of Medicine has invited you to discover the history of the place with 7 exhibition spaces (reconstruction of a sick room, presentation of a sacred art room, chapel in the heart of the building) and the history of medicine through major medical specialties and a temporary exhibition.
